Bellstone Actinograph is used to provide a continuous record
of the intensity of the sun and sky radiation. Two black bimetallic
strips and two white bimetallic strips are attached to a common
coupling.The white bimetallic strips reflect the radiation
from the sun, black bimetallic strips absorb it. So the temperature
of the black bimetallic strips rise and they bend.
The intensity of solar radiation can result from the difference
of this deflection on each bimetallic strips.
The glass hemisphere which covers the bimetallic sensors will
transmit about 90% of the wavelength of electro-magnetic energy
between 0.36 and 2.0 microns. This instrument is completely
self-contained and requires no external power.
